22 is the number of energy generating companies currently operating in my region. 22 is a BAD number if U are at the casino. 22 is a GREAT number if U are considering an assortment of microbrews on tap at a favorite pub. 22 choices can be somewhat daunting. If choosing one of 22 was about making a menu selection, U lean toward what U know your taste buds enjoy. If selecting one in 22 were about picking a movie, U would factor together celebrities and genres U prefer to see. If assembling a bouquet of flowers for your love, U would rely on your memory of her one outstanding scented favorite from the 22 buckets of variety. Yes, while narrowing down from 22 to one can be daunting, U have done it before. U can do it again.
Choosing an energy generator is well, boring and grown-up kind of work. I have thought a while about this and I have come up with a consumer decision that U may have made in the last 20 years similar to the proposition of suggesting it’s time to pick an energy generator of your very own. The similar consumer product to which I refer: bottled water. Even if U don’t go out of your way to buy your favorite bottled water, U may have over the course of time tried many and decided there is one U like best. (Oh yeah, I think it is safe to say there are at least 22 different brands of bottled water out there….) U like the taste, U like the bottle, U like where it is produced, U like how it is produced, U like who produces it, U like the label art. In the end water is water and if thirsty, U are not going to be picky, but if your favorite appears on a handsomely set tabletop, U are going to pick your favorite to drink.

There are several good reasons to choose your own energy generator. U have the democratic power to choose the way U prefer your electricity/natural gas is generated, procured. U have the choice to choose which corporation does this in ways with which U feel comfortable. U get to choose the price U want to pay. Your choice now will shape the future of supply and demand and while that’s bigger than anything I’m going to handle today, I hope U now feel differently about our task. Now it’s U and only 22. Can do!
